Rangers coach Michael Beale has revealed that he is eagerly looking forward to watching Douglas Luiz in action for Girona in La Liga.

Manchester City signed the Brazilian midfielder last summer and he was loaned out to Girona for the entire 2017/18 campaign, where he made 17 appearances for the club.

Pep Guardiola wanted the midfielder in his squad this season, but the club failed to obtain a work permit for the Brazilian and he has again been loaned out to the Spanish club.

Beale, who had a stint coaching in Brazil with Sao Paulo, admits that he has been tracking Luiz’s development for a while and he is one of the exciting players he watched during his time in South America.

The Rangers coach is looking forward to watching the 20-year-old perform week-in-week-out in the top tier of Spanish football at Girona this season.

He took to Twitter and wrote: “This boy has huge potential.

“He was my favourite player to watch when working in Brazil.

“Be good to seeing him playing regular in La Liga again this year.”

Luiz, who was wanted by Celtic this summer, is yet to break into the Brazilian senior squad, but has been a regular feature of their Under-20s.
