Manchester United legend Paddy Crerand believes Red Devils fans are now aware of the quality Marouane Fellaini brings to the team.

Fellaini was drafted into the starting eleven against Burnley on Sunday as Jose Mourinho looked to get a win to release the pressure on him and the squad following back-to-back defeats.

The Belgian played a key role in the middle of the park alongside Nemanja Matic to shield the back four and allowed Paul Pogba to play in a more advanced role to support the attack.

Manchester United scored a comfortable 2-0 win over the Clarets and Fellaini’s performance was marked out for its importance.

The Belgian has been a divisive figure at Manchester United since joining the club in 2013 and many fans were not impressed by his comments in the summer before he eventually decided to sign a new deal.

However, Crerand feels the Manchester United fans are finally realising the quality of the footballer and what he brings to the table at Old Trafford in terms of his role.

Talking about Fellaini’s performance against Burnley, he said on MUTV’s Paddy Crerand Show: “The two strikers fought for every ball but they never did anything of any danger.

“Fellaini acted as a shield and I think he does a great job for United, every time he plays.

“When he came to United, people didn’t have the same respect that they have now for him.

“I think the fans of Manchester United now really know how good a player he is.”

It remains to be seen whether Fellaini keeps his place in the eleven when Manchester United travel to Watford after the international break.
