Manchester United linked deal-maker Monchi could choose to leave Roma soon if he does not feel appreciated at the Stadio Olimpico.

Considered one of the shrewdest football minds around in Europe, the Spaniard earned plaudits for the work he carried out at Sevilla as the club’s sporting director.

He joined Roma last year as the club’s new sporting director and their run to the Champions League semi-final last season earned him more fame and accolades.

However, the mood has turned sour at Roma after a poor start to the season where they have won just one of their opening three league games and Monchi has come under pressure following a summer where he sold Alisson, Radja Nainggolan and Kevin Strootman.

And according to Italian daily Gazzetta dello Sport, the Spaniard is believed to be considering his future at Roma and could decide to leave if he feels his job is under pressure.

Monchi signed young players such as Justin Kluivert from Ajax and added experience to Roma’s midfield with the signings of Steven N’Zonzi and Javier Pastore.

However, the poor start to the season has put more focus on the Spaniard’s transfer dealings despite the club insisting on keeping faith in him.

Monchi is one of the names on Manchester United’s shortlist as they embark on a journey to appoint a director of football for the first time in the club’s history.

Barcelona are also believed to be keeping tabs on the 49-year-old and are admirers of his work at Sevilla.
