Manchester United fans have taken to social media to discuss Luke Shaw after the full-back revealed said he nearly lost his leg and considered retirement after breaking it in two places in 2015.

The 23-year-old had a lengthy spell on the sidelines after suffering the horific injury in a Champions League encounter against PSV Eindhoven. Speaking to the media ahead of England's UEFA Nations League game with Spain, Shaw said: "I'd be lying if I said I didn't think about stopping playing. No one knows but I was really close to actually losing my leg. I never knew that until six months later when the doctor told me."

Recalled by manager Gareth Southgate for England's games against Spain and Switzerland, Shaw faced a long period of rehabilitation and ended up missing eleven months of football as a result of his injury. Twitter user and Red Devils fan DC appreciated the 'unbelievable strength and character' showed by Shaw, while Fiona May added that hard work and determination is bound to pay off.

Shaw has featured in every minute of Manchester United's league games this season and Akshay Menon would probably end up taking a drastic step if he returns injured from international duty.

Fellow fan J.A.O. feels the full-back has been the deserving winner of the club's Player of the Month award, something Shaw himself would not have imagined this time last year.

Even Liverpool fan AnfieldAn was moved by Shaw's story, stating that is is 'miracle' that he is still playing so well, with PJ hoping he does not get injued again while playing for England.

Meanwhile, Red Devil Christopher McMurray cited him as an example for other players at Old Trafford to learn from after being criticised by manager Jose Mourinho.
