Liverpool legend Steve Nicol thinks Marcus Rashford must quit Manchester United in the summer if Jose Mourinho keeps the manager's job at Old Trafford.

Rashford has struggled for regular game time under Mourinho, with the majority of his appearances for the Red Devils coming from the bench.

Nicol believes the young striker has bags of potential, but needs to play week in, week out to realise it.

Rashford was sent off in Manchester United's 2-0 win at Burnley at the weekend and Nicol is convinced that his red card came out of frustration at a lack of playing time.

"I think he's got a big decision to take at the end of this season", Nicol said on ESPN FC.

"It's one thing to keep saying he's still young, he's going to get better.

"But to get better you have to play.

"What you saw with him getting sent off was complete and utter frustration.

"The frustration, in my opinion, is born of not getting on the field enough."

And Nicol thinks that if Mourinho remains Manchester United manager heading into next season, Rashford must leave to take the next step in his career, with the Portuguese just looking for the finished article, rather than to be a developer of talent.

"The problem is the manager. If Jose Mourinho stays at Man United then Rashford has to leave.

"Mourinho will want to buy someone who is already the finished article, which Rashford isn't", he added.

Rashford, 20, has made a total of 126 appearances for Manchester United, scoring 32 goals.
