Rangers new boy Gareth McAuley has emphasised just how much of a dream it is to join the Gers.

The 38-year-old centre-back was a free agent following his departure from West Brom in the summer and has put pen to paper to a one-year deal at Ibrox.

McAuley adds to Steven Gerrard's options in defence and the boyhood Rangers supporter is thrilled to have completed what, for him, is a dream move.

He took to social media to post a photograph of himself draped in the Rangers badge and scarf when a baby and wrote: "Dreams really do come true."

McAuley is still going strong at international level with Northern Ireland despite his advanced years.

The 38-year-old has won 79 caps for his country and has been included in the squad to play Bosnia in the UEFA Nations League and Israel in a friendly encounter, over the international break.

McAuley joined West Brom from Ipswich Town in 2011 and experienced Premier League football with the Baggies.

He will be looking to help the Gers be competitive at the top end of the Scottish Premiership this season, while McAuley has already stated his view that Rangers can win a trophy this term.
