Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud has conceded that he is getting closer to the end of his international career with France.

Giroud was part of the France squad that went on to the win the World Cup this summer as they became the second Les Bleus team to lift the trophy over their heads.

The striker did not score a goal in the tournament, but started every game barring one, which was a testament to his importance in Didier Deschamps’ plans during the summer.

Giroud, who turns 32 at the end of the month, admits that he is getting closer to the end of his time with the national squad and is keen to enjoy every moment after becoming a world champion.

He insisted that he will make himself available for France as long as he believes that he can add something to the squad and the coach continues to call upon his services.

Asked if he is thinking about international retirement, Giroud told Le Parisien: “A team-mate at Chelsea asked me this question.

“As long as I feel good, can bring something to the team and the coach picks me, I am available.

“I am aware that I am closer to the end than the beginning so I am enjoying every moment.

“I am not setting any limit or putting any barrier in front of me.”

Giroud has earned 81 caps for France and has netted 31 international goals for his country.
