Chelsea goalkeeping coach Christophe Lollichon has admitted that Paris Saint-Germain shot-stopper Alphonse Areola wanted to move to Stamford Bridge this summer and revealed he would have loved to have worked with him at Cobham.

The Blues were hunting for a new goalkeeper as Thibaut Courtois edged closer to a move to Real Madrid, the side he eventually joined.

The Premier League giants ended up signing Spanish goalkeeper Kepa for over £70m from Athletic Bilbao and he has slotted in as the number 1 at the club.

Areola could have been an option for Chelsea and Lollichon has revealed the 25-year-old would have made the move.

"We had a lot of discussions this summer, in a very reasoned way", Lollichon told French daily Le Figaro.

"He wanted to come here, but the final decision was not my responsibility.

"It would have been a pleasure working with him."

Goalkeeper Areola is currently battling for the number 1 shirt at PSG with veteran Italian shot-stopper Gianluigi Buffon.

The 25-year-old came through the youth ranks at PSG, having loan spells at Lens, Bastia and Villarreal, before establishing himself at the Parc des Princes.
