Inter defender Andrea Ranocchia insists that his team must head in to the Champions League group stage with confidence after being drawn against tough opponents in the shape of Barcelona, PSV Eindhoven and Tottenham Hotspur.

The last time the Italian giants featured in Europe's biggest tournament was in 2012, when they managed to reach the round of 16.

The 2018/19 season will therefore be an important one for the Nerazzurri as they aim for a good showing in their first season back.

The 30-year-old insists that he has been waiting for the return of the Champions League to San Siro and now that Inter have got to that stage the aim will be to play with calmness and get as far as possible in the competition.

The group that Inter have been drawn in is a tough one, with European giants such as Tottenham and Barcelona. However, Ranocchia welcomes the challenge and insists that there will be no hiding, with each team scheduled to face the other twice over the course of the group stage.

"In the Champions League we will play everyone with great calmness", Ranocchia told Sky Italia.
