Highly rated Augsburg full-back Philipp Max has denied that an offer reached him in the summer transfer window, despite strong links with Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain.

Max was mooted as a target for the two European giants, but stayed put at Bundesliga outfit Augsburg and recently put pen to paper on a new contract, running until the summer of 2022.

The defender is well aware of the speculation that was swirling around him, but insists he never had a decision to make as no offer was put to him.

And Max insists he was determined to keep his focus firmly on pre-season, despite the transfer talk.

"Some things you read in the newspaper, some things are passed on through your agent", he told Lattenkreuz.de.

"It was not that I was dealing with an offer.

"It was important for me to focus on pre-season. I think that went quite well."

Max insists that his future at Augsburg depends on what offers arrive, but none came in the summer transfer window.

"It always depends on whether there are specific requests.

"That was not the case this summer", the 24-year-old added.

Max will now be looking to kick on with Augsburg this season as he looks to break into the senior Germany squad and make the left-back slot his own ahead of Euro 2020.
