Inter are interested in snapping up Tottenham Hotspur linked midfielder Hector Herrera during the next summer transfer window.

The Mexican midfielder is in the final year of his contract with FC Porto and is unlikely to sign a new deal with the Portuguese giants, paving the way for his probable exit.

His representatives have already been canvassing Europe for suitors and there are suggestions that Tottenham are keeping close tabs on the 28-year-old's performances.

However, Herrera is attracting strong interest from Italy and Roma are believed to be pushing to reach an agreement for a transfer, if possible even in January.

The Giallorossi are prepared to shell out €12m in January to beat the competition to his signature, but according to Italian daily Tuttosport, they could face stiff resistance from Inter.

The Nerazzurri have opened talks with the player’s representatives and are eyeing agreeing on a deal for Herrera to join Inter on a free transfer next summer.

A January swoop has been ruled out as Inter do not have a place in their squad to accommodate a non-EU footballer.

Inter are hopeful Herrera will wait until the end of next season to change clubs on a free transfer.
