Chelsea defender David Luiz has admitted that playing at the highest level for a club like Chelsea comes with a lot of pressure and revealed that it is the same pressure that helped the Blues win the Champions League in 2012.

Luiz, who was a central figure during Chelsea’s run to the Champions League in 2012, has been given a lifeline under Maurizio Sarri in the starting eleven after being left out for the majority of last season under Antonio Conte.

The 31-year-old moved to Ligue 1 with Paris Saint-Germain, two years after Chelsea’s historic triumph in Munich, and returned two years later to lift his first ever Premier League title during Conte’s first season in charge at Stamford Bridge.

However, the Brazilian fell out of favour with the manager at Chelsea last season, but has returned to regular first team action under Sarri this term.

The defender admitted the fact that there is a lot of pressure associated with playing for a club like Chelsea, while also claiming that it was the same pressure that helped them win the Champions League in 2012.

"Chelsea's a big club with the opportunity to fight every year for titles and there is also pressure to get results quickly", Luiz told the official Chelsea Magazine.

"But it's a good pressure, and I think if you don't feel this pressure you stop being the type of player to play for Chelsea.

"Look at the Champions League in 2012. In one moment of the season, everybody was saying it was the worst for Chelsea in the last 10 years.

"But every single match we went out on the pitch to win, hoping to win, and in the end we won the Champions League, so it was the best year.

“So we changed our worst year for a long time into the best year in the history of this club. This is amazing", he added.

Chelsea are battling to return to the Champions League this season after finishing outside the top four last term.
