Liverpool legend Steve Nicol believes that now is the perfect time for the Reds to have a tough run of games as Jurgen Klopp’s men prepare for seven games in the space of 23 days, starting from Saturday.

The Reds have been in scintillating form so far this season after winning all of their four league games before the international break and are currently leading the pack above Chelsea on goal difference.

Klopp has strengthened his squad over the summer with the help of a few impressive additions and it has not taken the new arrivals too long to establish their identity within the Liverpool side that reached the Champions League final in May.

The Merseyside outfit breezed past West Ham, Crystal Palace, Brighton and Leicester City, but the schedule is about get intense, starting with their away trip to Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.

Liverpool will face Paris Saint-Germain after Saturday, followed by games against Southampton, Chelsea, Napoli and Manchester City in the space of the next few weeks.

However, club legend Nicol has claimed that it is the ideal time to have a tough run of fixtures as now they are physically fitter than ever and ready for any sort of challenge.

“No question, it’s going to be a test for the squad”, Nicol said on ESPN FC.

“I’m glad to see that just after the beginning of that, there is a couple of games – Southampton, which Liverpool should take care of, and then there is the League Cup game against Chelsea.

“No question, both sides are going to have experimental teams, that’s how I’m going to put it.

“So, yes it’s a lot of games, but because Liverpool now have a solid thick squad, without hampering the team on the field too much, I think Liverpool can take care of it.”

Nicol continued: “Listen, I think the end of this particular run is going to be the test. Well you’ve got Napoli and Manchester City as well, PSG too.

“It’s important that Liverpool get off to a good start against Tottenham because the momentum from that will take them through this.

“At the same time, I’ve got to say if you’re going to have a run like this, this is the best time to have it.

“Four games into the Premier League season, everybody should be a hundred percent, fit, healthy and sharp.

“So as far as physically, there is no question Liverpool I think are capable of going through this stretch and doing well”, he added.
