Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy is convinced Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers will be back managing a Premier League club soon.

Rodgers has won back-to-back domestic trebles since taking charge of Celtic in 2016 and has enhanced his reputation since the end of his time at Liverpool in 2015.

While failing to qualify for the Champions League group stage this season has taken some of the shine off his Celtic spell, the Northern Irishman remains a popular figure at Parkhead.

His exit from Liverpool came brutally after a Merseyside derby draw, but Murphy insisted that it must not be forgotten the last time Reds mounted a serious title challenge in 2013/14 Rodgers was at the helm.

And the former Red is sure that in the not too distant future the former Liverpool boss will be back at the helm of a Premier League side.

"[He] did loads of things that season people forget”, the former Red told BBC Scotland.

"He made Liverpool title challengers in a short space of time.

"And I'm convinced he's destined for a job back in the Premier League at some point in the not too distant future."

Rodgers' Liverpool side badly tailed off in the 2014/15 campaign and finished outside the top four, despite the Northern Irishman splashing the cash.

And a poor start to the next season eventually cost him his job at Liverpool, who appointed Jurgen Klopp in October 2015.
