Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has hit back at Gary Neville by commenting that he does not know what the former Manchester United skipper meant when he suggested that the Reds should sacrifice their Champions League aspirations to win the league title.

The Reds have had a sublime start to the season under Klopp and have already established themselves as leaders in the Premier League after winning all their games so far.

However, the fixtures are set to come thick and fast from now on, starting with a trip to Wembley for their Premier League clash against Tottenham before they open their Champions League account against Paris Saint-Germain at Anfield next week.

Liverpool, who finished as runners-up in the Champions League last season, were forced to settle with a fourth placed finish in the league last season, which they secured during the final weekend of fixtures.

Neville, who was an integral part of Sir Alex Ferguson’s unparalleled success story at Old Trafford, commented that the Reds need to loosen their focus on continental football if they are to win the league title this year.

Klopp hit back at the former Red Devils skipper by claiming that he did not understand how to concentrate solely on one competition when at a club like Liverpool, who are expected to compete on all fronts.

“Gary should come over and tell me how that exactly works”, Klopp told a press conference.

“How do you prepare a game when you don't focus on it? Bring your kids in the Champions League? That would be funny.

“I don't know what he means by that to be honest”, he added.

Liverpool are scheduled to play seven games in the next 23 days starting with the weekend’s trip to Wembley on Saturday.
