Steven Gerrard believes if Alfredo Morelos earns more caps for Colombia it can only be good news for Rangers.

The striker earned his first call-up to the Colombia national squad earlier this month and made his debut against Venezuela last week, when he came on for the last 13 minutes.

Morelos has been in impressive form for Rangers this season, scoring six goals in all competitions, and earned praise from Colombia legend Radamel Falcao during the international break.

Gerrard is delighted to see Morelos earn his first cap for Colombia and was happy to hear Falcao praising his player during his time with the national team.

The Rangers boss is hopeful that the striker gets more such opportunities for Colombia and believes it can only be good news for the club as it will be the result of his performances at Ibrox.

On Morelos’ first cap for Colombia, Gerrard said in a press conference: “I think he deserves a lot of congratulations for it.

“It is a very tough squad to get into, they have got some top forwards – Falcao to name one, who spoke really highly about his application while he was away.

“He has come back in great shape, he is smiling, I think he is delighted to get the first cap out of the way and let’s hope it’s the first of many.

“We are hoping to benefit for it because he will need to play well and score goals here to get cap number two, three, four and five.

“So, I am really excited about it.”

Morelos is expected to start when Rangers host Dundee at Ibrox on Saturday.
