Tottenham Hotspur midfield target Tanguy Ndombele has insisted that he did not want to leave Lyon in the summer after spending just one season at the club.

The 21-year-old French midfielder joined Lyon from SC Amiens last year and made a big impact during his first campaign at the Groupama Stadium with the club.

His performancesput him on the radar of several clubs in Europe and Tottenham were one of his suitors during the recently concluded summer transfer window.

Lyon refused to sell the Frenchman and Ndombele himself didn’t push for a transfer, instead choosing to continue at the club.

The midfielder admits that he wants to play at least one more season at Lyon before considering leaving the club and stressed that he has goals that he wants to achieve with Les Gones.

“I’m happy to stay at Lyon for one more season”, the midfielder told the club’s official website.

“That’s what I wanted.

"I hope that we are going to have a great season.

"It was important for me as I only had one season here and I wanted to stay and continue my development.

“I want to do great things here. I have personal goals but I prefer to keep it to myself.

“I had a good season and people were not expecting me to do well at this level.”

The midfielder, who has a contract until 2023 with Lyon, is yet to break into the France senior squad.
