Liverpool legend Steve McMahon has warned that Jurgen Klopp needs to deliver trophies at Anfield to keep the squad he has assembled together.

Klopp splashed the cash once again in the summer transfer window to further strengthen a squad that reached last season's Champions League final.

Despite being backed in the market, Klopp has yet to win a trophy at Liverpool and the Reds as a club have not won a trophy since collecting the EFL Cup in 2012.

McMahon knows there is a feel-good factor at Anfield, but the one cloud on the horizon will come if trophies do not arrive, he thinks.

"If within two or three years Liverpool are still trophy-less under Jurgen, that's when players will start thinking about 'well, I've got to leave to maybe win trophies'", McMahon said on LFC TV.

"That's why a lot of players will leave a top club, because they want to win trophies.

"That's the only thng that could go wrong with Liverpool keeping the squad of players."

The games keep coming thick and fast for Liverpool with Paris Saint-Germain to visit Anfield on Tuesday night for a Champions League group stage game.

Klopp's side then play host to Southampton, before welcoming Chelsea to Anfield on Wednesday 26th September in the EFL Cup.

Liverpool take on Chelsea again just days later, in a league game at Stamford Bridge.
