Steve McMahon says he was disappointed with Tottenham Hotspur's display in their 2-1 loss at Wembley against Liverpool, with Mauricio Pochettino having no options on the bench to change the game.

Tottenham were expected to give Liverpool a stiff test in the Premier League encounter, but were subdued and suffered a damaging defeat to their top four rivals.

Pochettino did not sign a single player in the summer transfer window and McMahon believes that he lacked options off the bench when he needed to change the flow of the match at Wembley.

And McMahon was expecting more from the north London giants.

He said on LFC TV: "I was disappointed in Tottenham.

"They had no bench to change it as such, to make it better.

"Harry Kane looked a shadow of the player he was last season. [Dele] Alli didn't play of course."

Spurs are due to move into their new stadium later this season and McMahon feels they need to ensure they have Champions League football at the ground next term.

"Harry Kane's form [is a worry]. I think he had one effort, it wasn't a chance. That was the only effort he had.

"It will be disastrous if they don't qualify for the Champions League this year given they are moving into the new stadium", the former Reds midfielder added.

Spurs are next in Champions League action, with a visit to Italian Serie A heavyweights Inter on the agenda for Tuesday evening.
