Liverpool legend Steve McMahon has raised the prospect of the Paris Saint-Germain players failing to cope with the atmosphere at Anfield on Tuesday night.

The French outfit are set to travel to Merseyside to take on Jurgen Klopp's men in a Champions League group stage encounter, in the opening game in the competitive for the respective sides.

Liverpool reached the final of the competition last term and are considered strong contenders in the current edition, while PSG themselves have lofty ambitions.

McMahon feels that PSG may fail to cope at Anfield as the majority of their players have never experienced playing at the ground on a Champions League night, an occasion that he feels cannot be beaten in world football.

"Paris Saint-Germain is a maginificent night. We all know about Anfield under the lights on a European night. In my opinion there is no bigger occasion in world football", McMahon said on LFC TV.

"You can have your Man Uniteds and your Real Madrids and throw them in the bin!

"You go to Anfield on a European night and it's sensational.

"It's world renowned.

"How many Paris Saint-Germain players will have played at Anfield? [Gianluigi] Buffon? But he might not play.

"Neymar came on as a sub in a pre-season game, but I am talking about a competitive game. [Edinson] Cavani might have played [at Anfield].

"So it's going to be interesting to see how the opposition cope under the nights and in front of 50,000."

PSG have started the new Ligue 1 campaign in style, winning all five of their games to sit top of the table and scoring 17 goals in the process.
