Preston North End manager Alex Neil insists that the atmosphere at Elland Road is always good, while expressing confidence ahead of the meeting with Leeds United as his sides have done well at the ground in the past.

The Lilywhites have visited Elland Road already once this season, with Neil's side managing a 2-0 win on that occasion and thus knocking the Peacocks out of the EFL Cup.

Neil insists that the aim from his team will be to stage a repeat of that showing and come away with all three points, and in the process hand Marcelo Bielsa's side their first defeat of the season in the league.

“I really enjoy Leeds”, Neil told iFollow PNE.

“I think the atmosphere is always good, their fans give them a really good backing and last couple of times we have been there our fans have been very vocal as well; we have played very well, put in some good performances.

“Most of my teams have done relatively well when we have gone to Leeds and I am hoping that this will remain the case.”

Neil's team have been going through a rough time in the league and have won just one of their seven Championship games, being currently placed deep into the relegation zone.

The manager insists that it is natural for teams to go through rough phases with a number of key players unavailable due to injury.

However, that is no excuse to make he feels, and Neil insists that the other players will need to step up and deliver.

“You go through spells like this but we have key players missing.

"It’s not an excuse but they are key players for a reason.

"Other lads need to step up to the plate.”
