Erik Lamela believes that Tottenham Hotspur will need to put in a complete performance to get the better of Inter in the Champions League.

Tottenham, who lost 2-1 at Wembley against Liverpool in the Premier League on Saturday, head to Italy to lock horns with Inter at the San Siro in their opening Champions League group game this season on Tuesday night.

Lamela is well aware of the size of Inter as a club due to his time at Roma; he has regularly been linked with a move to the Nerazzurri.

The Spurs winger is sure his men can do the job in Italy, but warned that they will need to be equally as good in defence as attack.

"It’s difficult to play there but we have an amazing group and we are more than capable of winning", Lamela told his club's official site.

"We have to play forward very well, but defend very well too because they have very good players.

"Sometimes we have bad days like now [with the loss against Liverpool], but I hope it’s only a bad day and on Tuesday we play amazing."

The two teams last met in a Europa League tie in 2013, with Tottenham winning the first leg 3-0 at White Hart Lane, before suffering a 4-1 defeat at the San Siro.

Barcelona and PSV Eindhoven are the other two teams in Tottenham's group.
