Preston North End captain Tom Clarke believes his side can learn from beating Leeds United in the EFL Cup this season and turn the Whites over at Elland Road on Tuesday night.

Alex Neil's men are in action in the Championship encounter against Leeds, who sit on top of the table and are yet to be beaten in league action this term.

But Preston have beaten Leeds in the current campaign, knocking Marcelo Bielsa's side out of the EFL Cup at Elland Road, with a 2-0 win.

And Clarke thinks that though Leeds may field different players on Tuesday, the way they play will be the same, which means employing a system which Preston have experience of stopping.

"While both teams were much changed that night, it is still a result we can use positively in the build-up to this game", the North End skipper was quoted as saying by the Lancashire Post.

"Leeds played the same way they have done, it was just different personnel.

"They try and play out from the back and what we did was to press them high and force them into mistakes.

"We attacked on the counter very well and saw the game out well even though we were down to 10 men for the length of time we were.

"There was a lot to take from that night and we’ll use it as a positive going into this one. We know that Leeds are going well and how they’ve started this season is very impressive", he added.

And Clarke believes that Preston must take heart from having stopped Leeds once, something they will look to do again.

"We’ve stopped them once already this season and hopefully we can do that again this time.

"A big thing will be to try and keep their crowd quiet.

"When we went a goal up in the cup, it happened.

"Going there as the underdog will be good."

Preston have struggled to get going so far this season and North End's only win in their last six games is the visit to Elland Road in the EFL Cup.

They drew 0-0 in their Championship encounter at Elland Road last term.
