Lyon president Jean Michel-Aulas has indicated that the Champions League clash against Manchester City on Wednesday night is not the most important match of the week for his side.

Manchester City have been drafted into Group F of the Champions League alongside Shakhtar Donetsk, Hoffenheim and Ligue 1 giants Lyon this season.

Pep Guardiola’s side are overwhelming favourites to reach the last 16 as group winners and they will open their European campaign at the Etihad against Lyon on Wednesday night.

Very few are expecting Lyon to cause an upset in Manchester this week and Aulas has conceded that he is not interested in the result of the game, though he wants to see a credible performance.

He admitted that Sunday night’s league game against Marseille is the more important fixture for Lyon at the moment than Manchester City.

Aulas told French sports daily L’Equipe: “I don’t care about the result against Manchester City, I want to see character and attitude.

“The result against Marseille will depend on the quality we show against City.

“Marseille of course [is the more important game], but everything is important when you have the ambition of Lyon.”

Moussa Dembele, who scored against Manchester City in the Champions League for Celtic, could line up against Guardiola’s side on Wednesday night.
