Manchester United legend Denis Irwin has insisted Anthony Martial needs to do more with the immense talent he possesses.

Martial wanted to leave Manchester United in the summer and his relationship with Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford has not been the best since the end of last season.

He is still struggling to find a place in the starting eleven and his listless performance against Watford on Saturday, when he was thrown in for the last 20 minutes, has further infuriated observers.

Manchester United fans have been questioning his attitude and desire on the pitch, but Irwin insisted that there is no doubt about the Frenchman’s ability as a forward.

The former defender thinks Martial must do more to do justice to his talent at Old Trafford and a player of his ability should be playing week-in-week-out.

Responding to a query on whether the player looks disinterested at the moment, Irwin said on MUTV’s The Paddy Crerand Show: “Maybe it is just his demeanour, that’s the way he is.

“But he is a player of immense talent, don’t think there is any doubt about it. To be honest he should be doing better for us with that amount of talent.

“It’s just about getting it out of him. He came on against Watford, had an opportunity within 20 to 30 seconds, but lost the ball.

“He has got an immense amount of talent, he should be a regular for us.”

Martial has not scored a goal for Manchester United since January.
