Former Liverpool manager Roy Evans has indicated that Mohamed Salah’s work rate on the pitch is something that often goes unnoticed because of his brilliance up front.

Salah had a terrific first season at Liverpool, scoring 44 goals in all competitions and he played a major role in Jurgen Klopp’s side reaching the Champions League final.

Compared to last year, the Egyptian has made a more sedate start to the current campaign and has two goals to his name in five Premier League appearances thus far for the Reds.

However, Evans believes Salah’s game goes far and beyond just his goals and he is especially impressed with the work rate the player puts in when he is on the pitch.

He pointed out that the 26-year-old never shows any laziness to recover the ball if and when he loses it, which is a key part of Liverpool’s style of play.

“Beyond his goals, he impresses me by his state of mind", Evans told French sports daily L'Equipe when talking about Salah.

“Because he never seems to be in any doubt and [he impresses] by his defensive work – you will never see him walking around after losing a ball.

“In his first season, he emerged as the top scorer without playing like a real number 9.”

Salah, who scored ten goals in the Champions League last season, is expected to start when Liverpool open their European campaign at Anfield tonight against French champions Paris Saint-Germain.
