FC Basel coach Marcel Koller is setting club rivalry aside and is keen to see Young Boys get a result against Manchester United tonight.

Manchester United have travelled to Switzerland and will open their Champions League campaign with a game against Young Boys in the Swiss capital of Berne.

With Juventus and Valencia also part of the group, Manchester United aware that they will need the maximum points from their two games against Young Boys to make their life easier in the group.

However, Manchester United do not have many fond memories of trips to Switzerland recently and lost to Basel in the group stage last season as well.

This time around Young Boys are flying the Swiss flag in Europe’s premier competition and Basel coach Koller admits that it is important for Swiss football for his side’s rivals to do well in the Champions League.

Speaking to Swiss daily Blick, the Basel coach said: “A positive result would be important for the whole of Switzerland.

“Basel have scored many points for the coefficient in the past.

“We hope that the Young Boys will also contribute something.”

Manchester United and Young Boys will be meeting for the first time in a competitive setting today.

They were drawn against each other in erstwhile European Cup in the 1958/59 season, but the FA ruled against Manchester United participating in the tournament and Young Boys were given a bye to the next round.
