Leeds United striker Tyler Roberts has insisted that he is now ready to keep his place in the team after a confidence-boosting performance against Preston North End on Tuesday.

Roberts was called into action by Marcelo Bielsa for the second game in a row due to the unavailability of Kemar Roofe and Patrick Bamford for the Lilywhites’ visit to Elland Road.

The 19-year-old stepped up and took the opportunity with both hands when he netted a second half brace to help the Whites to a 3-0 win over the visitors to extend their unbeaten start to the season.

The Whites youngster is expected to feature prominently in the next few games for Leeds as Roofe will be out for at least two to three weeks due to a calf problem, while Bamford is set to be unavailable for at least four months due to a knee problem.

Roberts went on to claim that he is now ready to play week in and week out for the Whites as they prepare to cope with the injury problems sustained by their first-choice strikers.

“I feel like I’m capable to be playing games, week in and week out. Just get more confidence and belief and I’ll be ready”, Roberts told the Yorkshire Evening Post.

Bielsa’s men are the only unbeaten side remaining in the Championship and are currently leading the pack with 18 points from their eight games so far, but Roberts insisted that it is too early to draw any conclusions regarding promotion.

The youngster also suggested that it is important for the Whites to not get carried away and added that the idea is to keep their feet on the ground and take one game at a time.

“It’s crazy. All the fans are buzzing. The players are buzzing but we’re not getting too carried away”, Roberts continued.

“We’ve got to take it game by game and the next game is the most important. That’s just how we see things."

Leeds will next face Birmingham City at Elland Road on Saturday in the Championship.
