Leeds United striker Tyler Roberts has conceded that his brace against Preston on Tuesday night is a payoff for the hard hours he has put in.

With Kemar Roofe and Patrick Bamford out injured, the 19-year-old Welshman has been entrusted with the job of leading the line for Marcelo Bielsa’s side at the moment.

He missed chances in Leeds' 1-1 draw at Millwall on Saturday, but the youngster grabbed the limelight on Tuesday night when he scored a brace in a 3-0 win over Preston.

Those were his first two goals for the club at senior level after just three appearances for Leeds and Roberts admits they have come as a massive boost for his confidence.

The youngster has been forced into the limelight because of the injury situation at Elland Road, but he feels that the brace is a good sign that his hard work is paying off on the pitch.

Asked what do the two goals meant for him, the Welshman told LUTV: “It just gives me massive confidence obviously.

“It has been a hard start to my Leeds United career and getting those goals just proved to me that the hard work is all paying off.

“And so I just need to keep working and believing.”

Roberts also made his debut for Wales during the last international break and earned his first two caps for the national team in the UEFA Nations League.
