Leeds United coach Carlos Corberan has revealed that the Whites are enjoying the pressure and expectations they are facing with each passing game in the Championship.

A comfortable 3-0 win over Preston on Tuesday night sent Leeds three points clear at the top of the Championship table after eight league games.

While Marcelo Bielsa has been keen to manage expectations, Leeds are gradually emerging as one of the favourites to earn promotion to the Premier League at the end of the season.

No Leeds manager has stayed unbeaten in his first eight league games before Bielsa and there is growing clamour around Elland Road about finally returning to the top tier under the Argentine.

Corberan, who is part of Bielsa’s staff at the club, stressed that Leeds need to be ambitious and believes the players are enjoying the pressure of expectations.

The Leeds coach told LUTV when asked about the growing expectations: “We have to be ambitious and we like the pressure.

“We like to play every game like a final and this is something that is very important.

"Our focus is on every game.

“Against Birmingham, it’s another opportunity to show what we are.”

The Spaniard also insisted that the drawn games against Middlesbrough and Millwall played a key role in the development of the Leeds side and they showed against Preston that they are learning quickly.

“In the previous two games we didn’t get the three points but at the same time team grew a lot.

"Sometimes you have to grow your spirit, ambition and your fighting and winning mentality.

“I think we didn’t win in the last two games but the team were growing and today we showed that it helped us.

“In three days we’ll be ready to face the next game.”
