Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa believes that Birmingham City manager Garry Monk is an important figure as far as coaching in the Championship is concerned, a fact that can be proven by his record at Elland Road.

The 39-year-old was at the helm of Leeds during the 2016/17 season, guiding the Whites to a seventh place finish, narrowly missing out on a playoff spot.

Since than Monk has taken charge of Middlesbrough and Birmingham, with the job at St Andrew's being his second since leaving the Whites.

Bielsa, who is currently in charge of the Leeds team and will host Monk's men in Yorkshire on Saturday, insists that Monk's record in the Championship proves his importance.

And with all his experience the former Argentine manager feels that Monk's side will prove to be a tough opponent for them on Saturday.

"He was the head coach of a team that finished seventh as far as I know. So it’s a fact that he’s important for any Championship head coach", Bielsa said at a press conference.

"He was the head coach of several teams, so he’s an experienced head coach."

The Whites currently top of the chart in the Championship with 18 points from eight games, while Birmingham are placed 20th and are winless so far.
