Mauricio Pochettino has stressed the importance of Tottenham Hotspur maintaining their balance, amidst criticism of their recent results and performances.

Tottenham won their first three league games of the season, but since then their results have gone south in all competitions.

Back-to-back defeats to Watford and Liverpool and then conceding two late goals at Inter to lose their first Champions League game of the campaign has ramped up the pressure on Spurs.

Ahead of their trip to Brighton on Saturday, Tottenham are desperate to get their season back on track, but Pochettino has insisted that he has not lost sight of perspective with regards to his team.

The Tottenham manager insisted that he is calm about the situation and accepts all the criticism that has been coming his team’s way over the last few weeks.

However, he stressed that his players must not lose focus and must maintain their balance despite all the brickbats.

Asked about his state of mind after three defeats, Pochettino said in a press conference: “I am so relaxed, I am so calm because I know football.

“In the same time when you win you get a lot of praise that sometimes you don’t deserve.

"When you lose you must keep the balance and accept the criticism and that people are going to think differently and of course try to find the reason why we lose.

“That is how I understand football and I accept that situation. That is why the balance is so important.

“When you win you need to keep the balance and when you lose you need to accept the criticism and keep the balance too.”

Tottenham have dropped down to sixth in the Premier League table.
