Inter are in advanced negotiations with Manchester United linked striker Mauro Icardi over a new contract for the club captain.

The Argentine started Inter’s comeback win over Tottenham on Tuesday night with a belting equaliser as the Nerazzurri scored a late 2-1 victory over the north Londoners at the San Siro.

Icardi has scored 55 goals over the last two seasons at Inter and has emerged as the club’s talismanic leader up front with his lethal eye for finding the back of the net.

He has been recently linked with a move to Manchester United, with suggestions Jose Mourinho has identified him as a potential signing for the upcoming transfer windows and Chelsea were also said to be interested in the summer.

Icardi has a €110m release clause in his current deal, but according to Italian daily Corriere della Sera it could soon change in the coming days and weeks.

Inter and Icardi’s representatives are in advanced talks over a new deal and the club have tabled a salary offer of around €6.5m to their captain.

The striker's financial demands are believed to be around €8m per season, but Inter are confident that they will be able to negotiate the wages in upcoming meetings with the player’s agents.

Inter are also trying to bump up the release clause and his new contract is expected to contain a buyout figure of around €130m.
