Birmingham City have confirmed that their Championship clash against Leeds United at Elland Road on Saturday will be overseen by referee Peter Bankes.

Bankes, who took charge of the Blues’ first home game of the new season against Norwich City in August, is no stranger to both sides after having already adjudicated matches involving the two this season.

The last Leeds game that Bankes was in charge of ended in a comfortable 4-1 win for Marcelo Bielsa’s men when they went up against Derby County last month.

The two teams have had contrasting fortunes ever since then as the Whites continue to remain unbeaten in the Championship after the 3-0 win over Preston on Tuesday while the Blues’ draw against Sheffield United meant that they are yet to register a single win so far.

Bankes’ record so far this season in the Championship stands at 38 yellow cards and one sending off in the eight games he has taken charge of.

Garry Monk’s men escaped any cautions during their clash against Norwich City while Bankes had to produce yellow cards for both Ezgjan Alioski and Patrick Bamford during the Whites’ win over Derby last month.

The visitors will be hoping that they can keep their slate clean while effectively trying to outmatch Leeds, who have impressed everyone under Bielsa this year.

Bankes will be assisted by Paul Hodskinson and Timothy Wood on Saturday at Elland Road while Simeon Lucas has been named as the fourth official.
