Southampton manager Mark Hughes has revealed that Manolo Gabbiadini is a doubt for his side’s visit to Liverpool on Saturday.

Hughes will already be without his top striker Danny Ings this weekend as the forward won’t be able to play against his parent club as part of the loan agreement.

And it seems Southampton could be seriously struggling with their attacking options at Anfield as Hughes confirmed that Gabbiadini pulled out of training earlier today because of a hamstring concern.

A decision on whether to include him in the squad has not been made and Hughes is keen to wait until tomorrow to see whether it is serious enough for the Italian to not make the trip to Merseyside.

When asked about team news ahead of Southampton’s trip to Liverpool, Hughes said in a press conference: “We have got a couple of issues.

“The main concern is Manolo Gabbiadini has pulled out of training today and we need to check on him.

“He has got an issue in the lower hamstring, behind the knee. We think it just might be a neural thing.

“We have to wait until the morning to see whether it settles down and he is an option for us.”

Southampton were comfortably beaten 3-0 the last time they visited Anfield in November 2017.
