Anderlecht director of football Luc Devroe has insisted that the club are not at all disappointed in failing to sign Liverpool flop Lazar Markovic in the summer.

Markovic spent the second half of last season on loan at Anderlecht and they agreed on a fee with Liverpool on deadline day to take him to Belgium at the end of last month.

However, the move collapsed in the final hour and while the player has insisted that money was not the reason he did not join the club, Anderlecht have made it clear the winger’s financial demands were the stumbling block.

Devroe stressed that Anderlecht were not all unhappy at losing out on Markovic, who has played very little football over the last two years at Liverpool.

He insisted that the club would have only signed the player if he was prepared to agree to the move on their terms.

The Anderlecht director of football told Belgian daily Het Laatste Nieuws: “Look at his stats of the last two seasons: a few games with Anderlecht.

“That’s it.

“We were in talks with him. But we are not unhappy that he didn’t come.

“He could have signed, but only on our conditions.”

A move in January has been mooted, but Anderlecht want Markovic to lower his financial demands in order to join them.
