Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford insists that it is important for his team to try and stay unbeaten for as long as possible and the Birmingham City game can be another step in that direction, though keeping the record up all season wrong is unrealistic, he says.

The Whites will host Garry Monk's side at Elland Road on Saturday as they try to stretch their lead at the top of the table.

The Blues though are not expected to be easy opponents, with Leeds manager Marcelo Bielsa already conceding that Monk's side don't deserve to be where they are at present in terms of the league table.

The visitors have one of the best defensive records in the league and Bamford insists that winning the game will be important, though it won't be easy.

Avoiding defeat on Saturday would also increase Leeds' unbeaten record in the league and Bamford believes that such a feat will be important for their success this term.

However, the striker says that keeping the record throughout the season would be an "unrealistic" dream.

"I think every game is tough but it’s one of them where we need to keep it going and we need to keep the momentum", the injured striker was quoted as saying by the Yorkshire Evening Post.

“I don’t want to curse it but I think it’s key to try and stay unbeaten for as long as we can.

"It’s unrealistic to ask us to go unbeaten for the whole Championship, but I think staying unbeaten for as long as you can will be important.”

The record summer signing remains sidelined with knee injury and is expected to be out for the next four months.
