Unai Emery has conceded that Arsenal need to improve their defensive record and stop conceding easy goals as soon as possible.

Arsenal romped to a 4-0 lead against FC Vorskla in the opening group game of their Europa League campaign, but conceded two goals in the last 15 minutes to take the sheen of the scoreline.

The Gunners also conceded a late goal to Newcastle United at the weekend and Emery admits that his side have been conceding too many easy chances to the opposition.

He stressed the importance of not taking their foot off the pedal for the 90 minutes and admits that conceding late goals has been a disappointing aspect of his team’s performances this season.

The Arsenal boss is keen to see improvements and believes that his side cannot continue to concede such basic goals.

On conceding late goals and a lack of clean sheets, Emery said in a press conference: “We are speaking before each match about having the mentality to not concede easy chances.

“Today was a good opportunity not to concede goals. But the last 20 minutes we need to do better on this competitive aspect.

“It was our disappointment today.

"We are conceding a few chances, it was the same in Newcastle and we need to continue to improve in this. In the last minute at Newcastle and in the last 20 minutes tonight two goals.

“Our challenge is to be competitive for 90 minutes.

"It is one thing to improve.”

Arsenal will host Everton at the Emirates on Sunday and Emery will be hopeful of seeing a better defensive performance.
