Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has conceded that the Bhoys have to improve in a lot of areas despite their late win over Rosenborg in the Europa League at Parkhead on Thursday.

The Old Firm giants opened their account in Group B of the Europa League with a 1-0 win over the Norwegian champions courtesy of a late header from Leigh Griffiths, who came on as a substitute and grabbed the winner in the 87th minute.

The Hoops were made to work hard for their win as they were left frustrated by the visitors on a night that rarely promised any glamour in a game that could have easily been a goalless draw.

However, Celtic’s perseverance in trying to break down Rini Coolen’s team finally paid off in the dying embers of the game when Griffiths snatched a late win in dramatic style at Parkhead.

Rodgers admitted that his team were rewarded for their relentless pursuit in search of three points, but also insisted that Celtic have to improve in a number of areas despite coming out unscathed from the game.

He also added that it is important for teams to win games when not at their best and congratulated the team for keeping yet another clean sheet.

“Without being at the top of our game we kept going and that’s what I asked them to do after the game last week”, Rodgers told the club’s official website.

“We have to find a way of winning when we are not playing as well as we would like and the players did that tonight.

“Five clean sheets in a row as well which is good. They didn’t get a shot on target against us so we’ll take the three points and be really pleased.

“At the moment too many passes are going back the way but it will come. We’ll work at it on the training field and we’ll look to find the solution.

“But while we are doing that it’s very important you continue to win. So this is a very important three points for us”, he added.

Celtic will be aiming to get back to winning ways in the Scottish Premiership when they visit Rugby Park to face Kilmarnock on Sunday.
