Marcelo Bielsa has insisted that Leeds United’s defeat to Birmingham City will not affect the state of mind of his players for the next game.

Leeds crashed to their first defeat of their Championship season at Elland Road when they suffered a shock 2-1 loss to Birmingham City, who were winless in the league prior to their visit.

The Yorkshire giants were overwhelming favourites to beat Blues at home, but produced a lethargic performance and came away with nothing from the pitch.

Leeds will be keen to get back on track soon and not follow last season’s script, and Bielsa insisted that his side will work on their weaknesses and look to get things right in the next game.

He said in a press conference after the game: “We have the obligation for each game.

“We have to correct what was wrong. We have to recover from the mistake we made, but it’s an exercise that we do after every game.”

Bielsa insisted that the defeat won’t adversely affect his players mentally as in the same way they didn’t quite manage to produce against Birmingham although they were in a positive frame of mind.

“Even with the state of mind is very important in football as you could see a positive state of mind didn’t allow us to play the kind of game we wanted to play.

“At the same time, the feelings of this loss won’t prevent us from getting a good result in the next game.”

Leeds will next travel to Hillsborough on Friday when they will take on Sheffield Wednesday in a local derby.
