Former Stoke City star Garth Crooks has blasted Potters boss Gary Rowett for allowing Saido Berahino to take, and miss, a penalty in Saturday's 3-2 defeat at home against Blackburn Rovers.

Rovers had raced into a 3-0 lead at the bet365 Stadium after just 46 minutes, piling the pressure further on Rowett.

But Stoke fought back and two goals in two minutes (79th, 80th minutes) from Berahino and Tom Ince put a draw within sight for the Potters.

Berahino had a chance to secure a draw for Stoke, but blasted his spot-kick against the bar.

Crooks was unhappy to see Berahino step up to take the penalty kick and believes Rowett should have put someone else on penalty duty.

"We've seen this before with Berahino", Crooks said on the BBC's Final Score programme.

"I think at West Brom he missed two.

"OK, he showed the nerve [to step up], but I've got to question the manager.

"He shouldn't be letting him take that penalty."

Stoke, despite being considered amongst the contenders to claim automatic promotion from the Championship this term, sit a lowly 18th in the standings and have taken just nine points from nine games.

The Potters are next in action away at Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup on Wednesday night.
