Manchester United legend Lou Macari has indicated that the Red Devils will always attract more negative headlines if they suffer a dip in form like Tottenham Hotspur.

Tottenham’s season has gone downhill since they beat Manchester United at Old Trafford last month and they have lost three games on the trot in all competitions.

They suffered defeats to Watford and Liverpool in the league and had a late meltdown at Inter to get their Champions League campaign off to a losing start.

Macari insisted that is the nature of football and teams can suffer a dip in form, results and performances at any given point of the season.

However, he believes if Manchester United had gone through a similar run of results, they would have attracted more criticism than usual.

Macari said on MUTV: “Football hasn’t changed.

“Tottenham blew us away 3-0 here [at Old Trafford] on the night but what have they done since?

“That’s typical football – ups and downs but sometimes people won’t accept that it can happen to Manchester United as well.

“We will have good spells of football and some poor spells but one thing is that if you don’t win enough games, you won’t be in contention.”

Manchester United will host Wolves this afternoon and are looking to extend their winning run to four games in all competitions.
