Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson has cautioned that his side have not won anything yet, after the Reds thrashed Southampton 3-0 to keep their 100 per cent record in the Premier League going.

It needed just ten minutes on the clock for Liverpool to take the lead at Anfield as Wesley Hoedt saw the ball rebound off him and into the back of the net, after Xherdan Shaqiri's cross flicked off Shane Long and on to the Dutch defender.

A second goal arrived for Liverpool in the 21st minute, with Joel Matip getting his head to a corner and powering a header into the back of the net.

And Southampton were left reeling before the half time break as Mohamed Salah won the race to blast the ball into the back of the net after a Shaqiri free-kick had crashed down off the crossbar.

The Reds saw out the win and Henderson admitted they could have pushed for more goals, but had one eye on keeping a clean sheet.

"I thought we were good. The first half defensively we gave them too many opportunities", he was quoted as saying by the BBC.

"Overall it was a solid performance and a good win and we knew it would be difficult.

"It felt in the first half they had a few half-chances.

"We didn't want to give them anything and to have a clean sheet.

"Maybe we could have had one or two more but we just wanted three points on the board."

The Liverpool midfielder has also urged caution, despite the Reds' superb start to the campaign.

"We haven't won anything yet and we've only had a good start and there's a long way to go. We're not getting carried away", Henderson added.

Liverpool have now won all six of their Premier League games.
