Noel Whelan has indicated that Leeds United cannot improve on Bailey Peacock-Farrell unless they spend a lot of money on a new goalkeeper.

Peacock-Farrell locked down the number 1 spot at Elland Road in the second half of last season and has kept it into this term, despite new head coach Marcelo Bielsa signing Jamal Blackman on loan from Chelsea.

However, the Northern Ireland international was at fault for Birmingham City's first goal in a 2-1 win for Blues at Elland Road on Saturday.

Whelan though is not concerned as he feels many goalkeepers have an error in them, while replacing Peacock-Farrell with someone better would cost a substantial amount of money.

"I think the thing is that unless you've got a lot of money to spend, then most goalkeepers have an error in them", Whelan said on BBC Radio Leeds after the match.

"Today was a big one as it gave them something to hang on to.

If he's going to be honest with himself, which I am sure he will be, then he's going to be really disappointed with the way the goal went in.

"He was about 24 yards out, it was pretty central where the ball went into the goal. He just tried to anticipate it and because of Che Adams' body shape it looked like he was going to bend it into the far corner, and in the end he's put it in the middle.

"But that's something he will learn from I guess", Whelan added.

Peacock-Farrell recently made his international debut for Northern Ireland after snubbing attention from England.

Just 21 years old, Peacock-Farrell now has two caps for Nothern Ireland to his name.
