Birmingham City assistant Pep Clotet has applauded Blues' players for their impressive 2-1 win against his former employers Leeds United on Saturday at Elland Road.

Clotet, who worked as an assistant to Garry Monk at Elland Road during the 2016/17 season, joined as a deputy to Monk when he took over at Birmingham.

Blues registered their first win of the Championship season when they emerged victorious at Elland Road on Saturday in a result that put an end to Leeds' unbeaten start to the season.

Che Adams bagged a first half brace to put the visitors comfortably on top at the half-time interval before Ezgjan Alioski pulled one back in the 85th minute for the Whites.

However, the goal came too late to try and inspire a comeback as the hosts succumbed to their first defeat in the league this season under Marcelo Bielsa.

Clotet was delighted with the result and was not shy of lauding the Birmingham players for the big effort that helped them defy the odds at Elland Road.

“These guys… huge credit to them! What a performance and what a great 3 points to be taking back to Brum!” Clotet wrote on Twitter while posting a picture of the players celebrating.

The result will come as a huge relief to all associated with Birmingham and they will be aiming for more now that the monkey is finally off their back.

Birmingham have climbed to 17th position with their win over the Whites and will next play Ipswich Town, who are second from bottom and without a win, in their next game on Saturday.
