Manchester City made a bid of €50m for Tottenham Hotspur target Tanguy Ndombele in the summer, but failed to take the midfielder to the Etihad Stadium.

Lyon were tested for Ndombele in the summer transfer window, on the back of the midfielder impressing for Les Gones last season.

Tottenham made a play to sign the 21-year-old and submitted an offer, but Lyon rejected it; Spurs did not sign a single player in the window.

It was also claimed that another Premier League side offered €50m for Ndombele, but it had not been clear who submitted the bid.

Now, according to French radio station RMC's Breaking Foot, Manchester City have been revealed as the club that bid €50m.

Pep Guardiola wanted to take the France Under-21 international to the Etihad Stadium, but the Citizens failed in their efforts.

Lyon then signalled their intent to keep hold of Ndombele for a longer period by locking him down to a contract running until the summer of 2023.

However, Les Gones are likely to be tested with bids for the midfielder once again in coming transfer windows and Tottenham and Manchester City could yet do battle for his signature.
