Sheffield Wednesday manager Jos Luhukay has urged his players to show him what they can do against Leeds United and West Brom in the coming days after their spirited win over Aston Villa.

The Owls registered an impressive 2-1 win at Villa Park on Saturday after goals from Marco Matias and Steven Fletcher, either side of a stunning equaliser from John McGinn, helped them secure all three points.

The visitors worked tirelessly during the afternoon and deservedly snatched maximum points from the fixture to put the disappointment of losing out to Nottingham Forest on Wednesday behind them.

The win lifted the Owls to 10th place in the Championship table and they will now prepare to face rivals Leeds at Hillsborough on Friday in a Yorkshire derby.

Luhukay was delighted with his team’s performance on Saturday, but has insisted that it is important for his players to pick up from where they left off against Leeds and West Brom in the Owls’ next couple of games.

“Now that we have this win, I want the players to push on even further”, Luhukay told the club’s official website.

“Next week we have Leeds and then West Brom just a few days later and I want the players to show what they can do.

“We have a good squad with players coming back from injury and we have Fernando Forestieri coming back from suspension.

“Maybe we can ask the referee next week to play with 12 or 13 players”, he added.

The Owls are just two points adrift of a playoff spot in the Championship table and will be aiming to maintain touching distance despite their tough run of fixtures coming up.
