Leeds United captain Liam Cooper has backed Whites shot-stopper Bailey Peacock-Farrell to bounce back from the disappointing performance he showcased against Birmingham City on Saturday, while revealing he has spoken with him.

Marcelo Bielsa’s men were handed their first defeat of the season at Elland Road by Blues as the visitors ran out 2-1 winners in the end with the help of a first half brace from Che Adams.

The hosts started poorly and it took Garry Monk’s men just eight minutes to break the deadlock through Adams when his shot from 20 yards out deceived Peacock-Farrell on its way to the back of the net.

The blunder came as a rarity for the young goalkeeper, who has established himself as the first-choice option at Elland Road under Bielsa this year while also making his debut for Northern Ireland during the international break.

Cooper admitted that the Whites did not deserve to win after starting so poorly and backed Peacock-Farrell to bounce back from the disappointment and utilise it as a learning experience for the future.

“Bailey’s a young keeper, he’s going to make mistakes and these things happen”, Cooper told the Yorkshire Evening Post.

“He’s got to expect that these things are going to creep in every now and again and it’s the way he bounces back from them that matters."

Cooper also revealed he has sought to boost Peacock-Farrell's spirits.

“He’s a strong lad, he’s a great goalkeeper and I’ve told him that.

"He just needs to not let it affect him”, he added.

Leeds have an opportunity to bounce back from their loss against Birmingham City when they face Sheffield Wednesday away from home on Friday in the Championship.
