Former Chelsea manager Antonio Conte is unlikely to become the next Roma coach if the club decide to sack Eusebio Di Francesco.

Roma have won only one of their opening five league games and are languishing in 14th in the league table, already ten points behind leaders and defending champions Juventus.

The club’s transfer decisions and recruitment have come under the scanner following a poor start to the campaign but Di Francesco’s future at the club seems doomed.

Despite Monchi reportedly ready to resign as the sporting director if the coach is sacked, the Roma hierarchy have gone about preparing a shortlist of targets for the coach’s job.

It has been claimed that Roberto Donadoni, Paulo Sousa, Vincenzo Montella and Laurent Blanc are some of the names on the shortlist, but according to Italian daily Gazzetta dello Sport, former Chelsea boss Conte is not part of the discussion at the moment.

It has been claimed that the Premier League and multiple Serie A winning manager has declined the possibility to become the Roma coach.

He is more interested in taking charge of an established team and is unwilling to carry out the massive rebuilding job he would have to carry out Roma.

Conte is claimed to be still being paid by Chelsea, where he is under contract for a further year, and will continue picking up his wages after rebuffing Roma.
