Leeds United loanee Laurens De Bock has suffered an injury during training with KV Oostende and is facing a race against time to be fit for the club's cup game against Hoogstraten VV on Wednesday.

De Bock struggled to establish himself in the Leeds first team following his £1.5m arrival from Club Brugge in January and has registered just six appearances in the Championship for the Whites.

The full-back secured a return to the Belgian top flight with Oostende in the summer after he was deemed surplus to requirements under Marcelo Bielsa at Elland Road.

The 25-year-old, who won the league title with Club Brugge in 2016, made two appearances for Oostende this season before picking up an injury in training that ruled him out of the 2-1 win over KAS Eupen on Saturday.

The defender is now facing a race against time to recover in time for Oostende’s Belgian Cup clash against second division outfit Hoogstraten VV on Wednesday.

The Belgian has not yet been missed at Elland Road and may have a tough time commanding a spot in the squad if he returns, due to the performances of Barry Douglas.

However, the left-back has insisted that Bielsa did leave the door open for him to stay at Leeds.

De Bock has represented Belgium across various age groups but is yet to earn his first cap for the senior team.

Oostende are currently sixth in the league table with 13 points from their eight games so far this season in Belgium’s top flight.
